Our Eco Warriors are committed to developing strategies that sustain and enhance the environment

Our efforts were recognised when we were awarded the Green Flag.

Every other Monday, the Eco Warriors meet to discuss ways that our school can remain 'Eco Friendly'.

October 2024

Recycling Week

To mark ‘Recycle Week’, the Eco Warriors talked about the importance of recycling and why it is important to us and the environment around us. They went on a little pick around school to improve the schools grounds and looked through the rubbish to see if they could find any litter they could recycle or reuse.

Eco Committee

This week we decided who our water monitors, energy monitors, litter monitors are going to be. The monitors will carry out daily tasks to save water and energy around school and keep the school environment clean by litter picking. Each term we will be changing roles.

Waste

The Eco Warriors created self-portraits to reuse waste. We are working hard to send as little as possible to the land fill.

Marine

Eco Warriors & School Council had a wonderful morning at Teesmouth Field Centre. They took part in 'Save our Seashore', helping to improve the beach through litter picking while also looking out for sand dune habitats.

School Grounds

A HUGE thank you to Biffa for the donation of wildflower seeds and apple trees for our Secret Garden. The Eco Warriors are doing a fantastic job at improving the secret garden with the help of Play Outdoors Hartlepool.

Water 

Eco Warriors have been writing letters to the council to ask for a ‘water butt’ for nursery and the secret garden. They want to recycle rainwater to water the plants and vegetables in the secret garden and help nursery with their water area to save water in school.

Healthy Living

Eco Warriors loved improving the secret garden. They tidied the planters and planted a variety of fruit and vegetables.

A HUGE thank you to the ‘Dutch Garden Centre’ for donating some fruit and vegetable plants to the school Ecology Club for their new project. They are going to create a fruit and vegetable patch in the Secret Garden.

Healthy Living

Eco Warriors made a delicious healthy snack with Jackie from Asda Community. They tried new fruits such as candyfloss grapes and white strawberries.

 

Litter

Eco Warriors took part in 'The Great British Spring Clean'. They had a walk around the local area litter picking to keep it tidy and took a tally of the waste that was collected to compare. Eco Warriors were Stranton Superstars!

Waste

Eco Warriors have launched ‘Recycle to Read’ throughout school. Over the next 12 weeks we will be holding a whole school competition to see which class can collect the most batteries to recycle.

Biodiversity

To celebrate the ‘Big Garden Birdwatch’, Eco Warriors made their own bird feeders to put in the Secret Garden to attract different types of birds.

School Environment

The Eco Warriors have been keeping the school grounds clean by litter picking.

Eco Warriors made their own eco-friendly Christmas decoration.

The Eco Warriors planted trees donated by The Woodland Trust to improve the school grounds.

Energy

Following on from ‘Switch off Fortnight 2023’, the Eco Warriors designed posters to put up around school to remind teachers and students to turn off lights and boards when they are not in use.
